Tuning

This article is for those who…
・don’t know what to do first.
・don’t know how to tune
・don’t know the correct pitch on the guitar

After you buy a guitar, the first thing you need to do is learn how to tune it.

(1) About tuning

Before playing the guitar, it is necessary to tune the guitar to the correct pitch, and this process of matching the notes is called tuning.

The guitar is an instrument that has a tendency to change pitches more easily than instruments such as the piano.
As time passes or temperature changes, the strings loosen and the pitch becomes distorted.
Before you play your guitar, you always need to tune it.
Learn how to tune in this article.

(2)Correct pitch

First, let’s listen to the correct pitch.
This is the pitch when you pluck the strings one by one from the 6th string (the thickest string) to the 1st string (the thinnest string).

In terms of pitches, they are E,A,D,G,B,E (it’s okay if you don’t remember them for now).

(3)Try tnuing

Now, let’s tune it actually.
Tuners are useful tools for tuning, but if you are not used to them, you may end up tuning the pitch too high and break the strings.
First, let’s tune while checking the correct pitch.

Continue to match strings 4 to 1 in the same way.

(4)Tips for stabilizing pitch

The basic method is as explained above, but there are some points to be careful of.

Mutch a note lower than the correct note and gradually raising the pitch until it matches the correct note.

If you do it the other way around (starting with a high note and lowering the pitch until you hit the correct note),
as the strings tend to loosen, which can cause problems such as the pitch not being stable or the pitch changing quickly while you play.

If the pitch is higher than the correct pitch, loosen the strings, make the pitch lower than the correct pitch, and then gradually raise the pitch to match the correct pitch.

(5)Easy tuning method

Up to this point, I have explained the basic method of tuning.
However, when you start practicing the guitar, it can be difficult to check and tune the correct pitch every time.
Therefore, there is a useful thing called a “tuner”. In the next article, I will explain how to use the tuner.
